Uptake of triple science

There are two main options for pupils taking GCSE science in the UK: Dual Award and Triple Award. In Dual Award Science pupils are awarded two grades across the three sciences, and in Triple Award Science they are awarded one grade for each subject.

An interesting parliamentary question recently revealed the extent of variation in the uptake of Triple Award science across the UK's local authorities.

  1. I would be inter­ested to see how the take up related to the average GCSE grades for stu­dents, is it to do with aspir­a­tion or to do with oppor­tunity? I would also be inter­ested in seeing the effect on the EBacc on triple science take up as at our school it has reduced numbers by half in one fell swoop.
