Girl with heterochromia

Heterochromia is a genetic condition that causes the irises of the eyes to be different colours.

Cat with heterochromia

It is very common in white-coated cats; often the cat will also be deaf in one ear.

  1. david bowie has this doesn’t he?

although he says its because he was punched by sum1 when he was younger….

how hard to u rekon u have to be punched for ur eye to change colour!!!

  2. Heterochromia isnt common is it? The odds of having it are 1/1000 arent they?

  3. Actually, David Bowie has one pupil permanently dialated. AKA the black part is permanently as big as it will go.

  4. Responding to the caption “It is very common in white-coated cats; often the cat will also be deaf in one ear”:
This is an incorrect statement. The true explanation is very complicated, based in genetics…please go to the page http://www.messybeast.com/whitecat.htm, and scroll down to the heading “WHITE CATS AND DEAFNESS” for clarification. Also, the information in wikipedia under “Odd-eyed_cat,” which you have hyperlinked to, negates the statement.

  5. Godwin, your comment has some truth to it :

‘although he says its because he was punched by sum1 when he was younger.…

An old colleague of mine had one blue, and one brown eye. He was born with 2 blue eyes, but when he had an accident with doing metalwork, a metalsplinter went into one of his eyes, made that eye blind and changed to brown/dark.

  6. My father has one blue eye and one green eye. He obtained this from a BB gun pellet in the eye when he was younger. I’m guessing that the eye’s iris changes color due to the shock of something. Then staying that color after healing.

  7. The girl above was photoshopped, her eyes are originally brown.

  8. For those of us with heterochromia, and depending upon when you were born was one in 350,000. Once you have the condition it can be passed onto your offspring. My uncle had it and now my child. Ours are distinctly two different colors and not blended in one iris or the other.

  9. I have heterochromia, one of my eyes is blue and the other one is green. I was born with it, but I know a lot about it, and the stuff about David Bowie you said is true, he got punched in the eye and now the pupil will always be like that.

And “Harry Potter”: It depends on how u see it. I can’t wear makeup because of my heterochromia, it looks so stupid…

  10. I have segmental heterochromia in both eyes, it’s genetic.

  11. @godwin David Bowie has anisocoria, meaning that his pupils are different sizes. This makes it look as though one of his eyes is darker than the other.
